Alyssa joined the Nine9 family in January of 2018 and she didn’t come alone. Alyssa brought to Nine9 her wonderful personality and an awesome resume. Prior to starting with Nine9 Alyssa had appeared as a Background Artist in FOX’s Empire and for Steve Harvey. As you will read later, Alyssa’s big break came on Showtime’s award winning series Shameless. But Alyssa’s true talent comes shining through on her YouTube Channel where her hilarious sense of humor and beautiful singing voice is on display. We had the pleasure of asking Alyssa a few questions about her experience and here is what she had to say:
What was your favorite casting experience with Nine9?
I recently just joined Nine9, but I have been booked on Chicago Fire which was a cool experience and different show for me to be on! It was a fun set and I enjoyed meeting the main actors like Taylor Kinney on the show.
What was your first ‘big break’ and how did it come about?
I booked myself on one of my favorite TV shows Shameless! I was shown on a few episodes and it was such a amazing experience. I loved the whole cast as well as the crew. It was surreal being with the Gallagher family in a hair room! Super down to earth people though, and the fact this is one of the biggest shows right now, I am so blessed I was able to have the opportunity to be there.
What would you say is your biggest achievement so far and why?
I played one of the hot tub girls on Shameless Season 8 that was with Carl!
How do you like to stay fit/active?
I do like to work out a few times a week, I do weights and cardio at my gym. I try to eat well, but I do love pizza and ice cream! Working out helps me release stress as well as feel more in shape. I feel more confident when I workout.
What’s your favorite food?
This is always a hard question because so many foods are amazing! I love food and don’t think I could diet and cut out everything! If I had to choose one that I am always down for, it’s pizza.
Any advice for people wanting to start acting/modeling?
My advice is you have to put in work. You can’t just sit at home and expect someone to find you. You have to put yourself out there whether that is social media, auditions, making videos, posting pics. Also believe in yourself. If you have passion and hark work, with that one day you will succeed! I am always busy applying for things, making videos, and more. It is a lot of work, but it will pay off one day! That is how I have gotten represented by apps or been booked for shows! It’s social media! I have had a few singing shows reach out to me, apps, shows, etc. It’s so important to put yourself out there and have confidence!
Have you ever been to a photo shoot with Nine9? What was it like?
I did some simple head shots. We did it at the building. It was nice because Nine9 will put together a comp card as well as a nice head shot with your name which is important to have nice photos when applying for things!
What’s song best describes you?
I love music so much. I actually have two music tattoos. I have always had a passion for it and I sing. So this is another hard question. Right now, a song I do love is “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna. I feel so much emotion and relation to the song. When I performed it while opening up for a band, I really felt I was able to show the emotion of the song.
What would you be if you weren’t an actor/model?
I would probably be a Psychologist because I like to be there for people. Not many people know I’d also like to be in the criminal justice work like FBI Detective or something. I love watching Criminal Minds and other shows.
Tell me something about you not many people know.
Something people may not know about me is how many times I have moved. My dad is in the advertising world, so up until I graduated high school I moved a lot. I have moved states about 10 times. I was born in Santa Monica, grew up in Miami and Boulder, Colorado. I have lived in Texas, and Minnesota. Now I live in Chicago. I have moved between states back and forth. It was hard moving a lot, but it has made me who I am. I’m super independent, social, and not shy! Moving made me learn to put myself out there and have confidence which has helped me with the career I want to do.
What do you like doing in your free time?
I love just relaxing at home watching Netflix! I love watching shows and movies all the time. I also like to workout. I make YouTube videos, and do things for social media so I try to put my free time in that as well.
What Nine9 program do you feel you’ve benefited from the most? (ie: Meet & Greets, Castings department, etc.)
The Castings Department has really helped me! It’s nice everything is posted and I am notified as well when a job is available for me or someone wants to cast me. It’s fast and easy. Also, Nine9 is helpful. I also like the classes they hold.
What is your favorite outfit to wear to auditions?
I love fashion! I love buying clothes, shoes, makeup, etc. I love having my own style. I usually like to be simple but dressy. I’ll wear nice pants or jeans, with boots or heels. I wear a nice shirt with cute jacket. I usually do my hair and always makeup. The sets I’ve been on they always compliment my makeup which is nice! I also like putting some jewelry on. It’s important to have a style and look nice. You have to represent yourself and dress to impress.
What is your routine going into an audition? What do you prepare?
I prepare a monologue. I usually listen to music before a big thing. I rehearse over and over. I drink lots of water as well as feeling confident in what I’m wearing helps me feel good. I always pray, too, for guidance to do my best.
If Nine9 could set you up with a dream role/gig, what would it be?
I would love to have a role on a TV show! I really want to be a known actress one day! I love being on set and acting. Or reality TV would be so much fun! I like to have fun and don’t really have a filter so I like to make people laugh.
