Anissa has been a Nine9 talent for several months and we’ve had a chance to see her accomplishments since then! Not only has she been attending events including workshops, but she has had some great opportunities along the way. She is a great Georgia talent with an eye for fashion and a love for photography. We had a chance to catch up with her recently and are pleased to share our most recent interview, take a look!
If Nine9 could set you up with a dream role/gig, what would it be?
My dream role/gig would to do voice-overs for a Disney animation film! When I was younger, I actively participated in honors chorus and became fascinated with all that I could do with my voice. When I would have the opportunity to sing a solo in choir, I would always choose one of the classic Disney songs. I find myself to be an animated and sometimes goofy character so I feel like I would be perfect for a Disney film! “Who says we have to grow up?”- Walt Disney
What do you like doing in your free time?
Right now, I enjoy learning about photography behind and in front of the camera. I have a couple of modeling projects I’m about to start for my personal blog. I have a great sense of style and I love putting my own pieces of clothing together. I also enjoy discovering new food spots in the city of Atlanta (I’m such a foodie) and be involved with the community. With Piedmont park only walking distance from me, I have been able to participate in music concerts and enjoy walks through the botanical garden!
What is your favorite outfit to wear to auditions?
I typically go for a dress, I’m such a girly girl and I like to extenuate my curves. I wouldn’t be surprised if I went for an all-black outfit or something with a pop of color to brighten my face. A pair of cute strappy heels and my favorite lipstick to go with it too! I typically shop at Dillard’s or Bloomingdale’s for my special occasion clothing; they have the greatest selections for my body type.
What is your routine going into an audition? What do you prepare?
Recently, I’ve been getting into modeling auditions and I have to give myself a couple of hours before hand to prepare. I try to dress to impress by selecting colors to go with the theme of the audition. I have to play music and jam to my favorite artists like Rhianna or Bebe Rexha. Music tends to lift my mood and hype me up before an audition. I love feeling confident and excited for a new opportunity!
What Nine9 program do you feel you’ve benefited from the most?
Nine9 has a lot to offer, but I’ve been most active with the acting classes they offer. The ‘Act It Out Adult’ classes are always so much fun and our teacher, Bob Putnam, does a phenomenal job preparing us for auditions. He is very informative and thorough with his techniques and you can tell he is very knowledgeable about the film and modeling business. I was able to gather resources from him in search for modeling gigs and he gave us great examples of how to set up our comp cards. I hope to continue to work with him and to participate in more Nine9 programs!
Any advice for people wanting to start acting/modeling?
Yes! The best advice I could give to someone starting acting or modeling is to always believe in yourself 100%! I struggle with self-confidence sometimes and auditions can be intimating when you see your competition. I try to write down all the great things about myself and things I have to offer to the world. It is also important to gather resources, tips and network with people from the industry. I try to stay vocal and persistent so people know that I’m serious about this career and try to take chances on any given opportunity. So far, I’ve started modeling for a jewelry company, Fabulina Designs and I’ve learned so much from it already. So remember, be confident and be persistent!
How do you like to stay fit/active?
I like to keep myself active in the gym but also engage in outdoor activities. I prefer to be outdoors and enjoy the scenery, especially since Georgia is so beautiful. When the weather is nice, I would go for a hike in the North Georgia Mountains or by the Chattahoochee River. I started tennis lessons this year at Lifetime Fitness, which is always a ball of fun. I can get competitive and it pushes me to workout harder. When I’m unwinding, I engage in hot yoga and I enjoy it very much. It helps with my flexibility, stability and clears my mind during the practice. I feel like it’s very important to stay active, as it’s essential for the health of the body and mind.
What’s your favorite food?
Lately, I’ve been obsessing over Eggplant Parmesan! I really enjoy the flavors of Italian foods so I try to make my own spin on it by creating recipes at home. I recently purchased an air fryer this year, and it’s changed my cooking style completely! I love being able to ‘fry’ foods without the guilt of fats and calories. I use little to no oil with the air fryer and every time I use it, I surprise myself with the results. And of course, I love cheese so I would use provolone and Parmesan for this dish. As a side, I pair the dish with veggie pasta so I know I’m getting full servings of good nutrition. Yum!!!
What would you be if you weren’t an actor/model?
Probably an organizer of some kind or working for the art department in film! One of my greatest talents is organization and coordinating, and I would love to do that for a movie. Especially with Atlanta being the new Hollywood, there is so much work opportunities in the south. I’ve always been fascinated with movie productions and creating/designing the sets. I believe that’s where the magic happens and where artistic designs come to life!
Tell me something about you not many people know.
I’m highly interested in doing voice-overs for some sort of animation or cartoon, so sometimes I like to make funny impressions and sounds. I would practice it to my two kitties, which may seem silly or weird, but we all seem to get a kick out of it. Most of my closest friends and family know I want to pursue modeling, but not many know of this secret talent!
