It All Starts With A Drive! With Chris Gibson

This month we had the awesome opportunity to interview an up and coming Detroit area model. Meet Chris Gibson.  Chris has very great views on the industry and how to get started. Also, he has a very important message for those who are looking to get into the industry. Let’s meet Chris:

What was your favorite casting experience with Nine9?

Stylez fashion show because this was the first casting Nine9 has set me up with in working with them

What was your first ‘big break’ and how did it come about?

Going to Los Angeles for modeling for 5 days. It was different for me because I had never traveled for work before. I had gone to audition for LA models and State management. But it definitely was a big break for me because it wasn’t only for work it was a way to get away for a while.

What would you say is your biggest achievement so far and why?

Getting my name out in Detroit and modeling for different fashion shows because starting out in modeling I didn’t know what the first step was I didn’t know whether to submit myself to agencies right away or to just try to get my name out there even when I didn’t know how. But then I auditioned for one fashion show and got in and I kept auditioning. And I figured out doing fashion show around Detroit should be able to get my name out there. Some designers and people in Detroit know me. More than what they did before so I see that as a big accomplishment.

How do you like to stay fit/active?

I run I love to run. I’ve been ruining since I was 7 and I also ran track and field in high school and middle school. Running has just always been an easy way for me to get fit.

What’s your favorite food?

Pizza because I love the combination of all the flavors. My favorite place to eat pizza is actually Marcos Pizza and my favorite topping, of course, has to be pineapple lol.

Any advice for people wanting to start acting/modeling?

Keep going and never give up and network and continue to do photoshoots and SAVE SAVE SAVE! MODELING IS EXPENSIVE! Also if you’re planning to get more exposure do more work in your home city such as Detroit. Start there and then branch out. Once people know you in Detroit you’re more likely to be known other places. Also when you post pictures on Instagram or social media make sure you tag agencies in your photos that you want to model for and ALWAYS use the right hashtags don’t put hashtags to put hashtags. And look up videos on how to better do modeling. YouTube never hurts to look up different types of walks and I suggest also going to as many modeling classes as you can and I highly recommend Nine9.

Have you ever been to a photo shoot with Nine9? What was it like?

No, I haven’t scheduled one yet because modeling is expensive and I just have been busy with fashion shows, but intend to

What’s song best describes you?

Taste by Tyga I feel like this describes me. Not in all parts but most. Like this describes my mindset. I feel like everyone can get a taste of me (my work) and once they do they can’t help but like me. I stand out from everyone else and I’m not like other models and I’m a great model no matter what anyone says.

What would you be if you weren’t an actor/model?

I would be in the military because this is something I’ve always wanted to do since I was 17. My cousin is also a marine. But this was before I knew about modeling. I fell in love with modeling I’m still not sure of the reason why I fell in love with it. I think it’s because I LOVE how I look.

Tell me something about you not many people know.

I love dogs. I’m a dog’s best friend. I love dogs because they are therapeutic for me. It’s like a whole another person and it makes me feel safe.

What do you like doing in your free time?

Watching YouTube about modeling and also I love working out. Working out keeps my body fit for modeling. I’m also an underwear model so I definitely got to keep my body up

What is your favorite outfit to wear to auditions?

All black and an experienced model knows that’s what’s required at a model casting it’s so they can see your body form.

What is your routine going into an audition? What do you prepare?

I get a model bag filled with deodorant, lotion, my comp card, my runway shoes, my portfolio, and my resume. This shows that you know what you’re doing. I NEVER leave without my comp card and portfolio and resume especially it’s so the person casting can see my work.
