At Nine9 The Magazine we look forward to speaking to our up and coming Talent! These Talent are not only motivated to succeed in the world of entertainment, but that drive carries over to their everyday lives. Rachel exemplifies that personal drive, she’s most recently walked on the runways of New York City, but she’s also making a name for herself in the world of medicine! We recently spoke to Rachel about life and her experience in the industry, here’s what she had to say:
What was your favorite casting experience with Nine9?
All of them were nerve-wracking experiences. You’ll learn and meet people from different walks of life-That’s what I like the most.
What was your first ‘big break’ and how did it come about?
Walk Fashion Show- The first casting of Nine9 that I went to and I was fortunate enough to be one of the models who were given the opportunity to walk during New York Fashion Week. I wouldn’t lie that I was REALLY NERVOUS that day. It was really chilly outside and there was a lot of beautiful models who were waiting in line. I was on the verge of just not doing it anymore and I was doubting my skills and experiences since I hear people bragging about their previous runway shows and events. But at the same time, I was thinking I wouldn’t lose anything if I try. So I put my game face ON, Just reminded myself of happy thoughts. And… I cleared my mind. I was just thinking, I gotta prove myself that I can do this. After walking, the designer asked for my name and number. The rest is history.
How do you like to stay fit/active?
In order to stay fit and active, I make sure to keep track of my daily exercise routine. I bought gym equipment at home that i can use whenever I’m not in the mood for gym. My exercises vary-it can be yoga, cardio (running), circuit training or even simple abs workout. For food, I make sure to eat ALOT of green leafy vegetables.
What’s your favorite food?
Filipino food or anything oriental.
Any advice for people wanting to start acting/modeling?
If this is your dream, you should make sure to allot a day or simple daily goal. By the end of the year, you’ll be surprised with what you’ve accomplished.
What’s song best describes you?
Fight Song-Rachel Platten. I love the line.. ” I might only have one match but I can make an explosion.”. I always doubt myself especially when I go to castings, I feel like I’m a newbie or I’m not good enough.
What would you be if you weren’t an actor/model?
Doctor- I’m finishing my doctorate degree right now and I’ll graduate next year (January 2019). I believe in the saying that goes, “Beauty may be dangerous but intelligence is lethal”.
Tell me something about you not many people know.
I’m an airplane crash survivor. 10 years ago, my family survived from an emergency airplane landing. It was traumatic at first but we were able to surpass the challenges and here I am now-Making the most of my second life.
What do you like doing in your free time?
Planning my next move. I was an events planner before and I just love planning what’s gonna happen next. I feel like this root down from the accident which taught me that I should always have a PLAN B.
What Nine9 program do you feel you’ve benefited from the most? (ie: Meet & Greets, Castings department, etc.)
Meet and Greets! I tend to socialize and learn more from people in the business.
What is your favorite outfit to wear to auditions?
Black tank top and black pants/leggings never goes out of style.
What is your routine going into an audition? What do you prepare?
The basics- comp card/head shot/resume. I usually bring light make up since I was advised not to use heavy make up for castings. When I feel nervous, I try to play any relaxing music like waterfalls/ waves/ birds chirping or even my favorite-worship songs! I suggest that you search for the music that connects you with your inner peace.
If Nine9 could set you up with a dream role/gig, what would it be?
Tomb Raider-Lara Croft or a Superhero.
